Setting Up a Custom Domain

How custom domains work, the DNS records you need to add, and what to do if your domain isn't loading.

Run your platform on your own web address, for example innovation.yourcompany.com instead of yourplatform.untap.us. Custom domains are included in the Ultimate and Enterprise plans, and available as a paid add-on on other plans.

See your current address

  1. Click the Gear icon (top right) and choose Platform Settings.

  2. Open the Domain Settings tab.

Change your untap.us address yourself

You can change the first part of your yourplatform.untap.us address at any time, without our help:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Platform Settings.

  2. Open Domain Settings.

  3. In Platform URL, type the new name in the box before untap.us.

  4. Click Save Settings.

Before you change it: links to your old address stop working. Reshare the new link with your participants and evaluators, and update it on your website, emails and social posts.

Set up your own domain

A fully custom domain (one that doesn't end in untap.us) is the only part that needs us. Message us in chat to get started.

  1. Tell us the exact subdomain you want to use.

  2. We send you CNAME records: one for SSL certificate validation and one for routing.

  3. Your IT team adds these records at your DNS provider.

  4. Once DNS has updated (this can take up to 24–48 hours), we finish the setup and your platform loads on the new address.

Good to know: when your platform's address changes, share the new link with your participants and evaluators.

If your domain isn't loading yet

  • Check that the records were added for the same subdomain we issued them for.

  • Check that they were added as CNAME records, exactly as provided.

  • Give DNS time to update.

Still not working? Message us in chat. We'll check and, if needed, issue new records.

Program links

Each program also has its own address on your platform. To copy it, open the program and use the share icon at the top of the page.

Careful: Enable custom program URL on the program's Content tab doesn't give your program a nicer address. When it's on, an external link is shown, rounds are disabled and submissions are no longer accepted. Only use it if applications happen on another website.
