The form builder is where you create the forms participants fill in and the scorecards evaluators use. This guide walks you through every field type, every setting and the tools around the builder, and answers the questions we're asked most.
Good to know: the form builder saves automatically. There's no Save button. Every change (adding, deleting or editing a question) is saved the moment you make it, including on live programs. To reverse a mistake, use the Undo arrow at the top of the canvas straight away. On a program that's already receiving submissions, plan your changes before you start (see Section 13).
1. Opening the form builder
You don't need to create a submission form. Every round already comes with one. Just open it and start editing:
Open your program and click the round (for example 1 Application Submission).
Click the Submission Form tab. The round's form opens straight away. Evaluator scorecards are in the Evaluation Form tab next to it.
If the round uses tracks, choose the track in the Select Track selector at the top left. Each track has its own form.
Need more than one form in the same round? For example, a different form for each category or challenge. Turn on Enable submission tracks (Round → Settings → Submission Settings), then add a track for each form. See Managing Submission Tracks.
Next to the form name or track selector:
+ Add Track (only when tracks are on): create another track. Enter a Track Title and, optionally, choose Clone fields from another form to start from an existing form instead of a blank one.
Edit (pencil): rename the form or track (Track Title).
Set Submission Title(s): choose which answer names each submission (for example the startup or project name). This title appears in the Submissions list and on evaluator cards.
At the top right are three tools: Evaluator Preview, Use template and AI Assistant (see Section 5).
2. The builder layout
Toolbox (left): every field type, grouped into categories, with a search box.
Canvas (center): your form. Hover a question for Duplicate, Required and Delete. Use Add Question at the bottom of a page to add one quickly. Zoom, Collapse All and Expand All are on the right edge of the canvas.
Settings panel (right): the settings of whatever is selected. Click a question for its settings, or click the form background (or the sliders icon) for form-wide settings. The icons on the far right jump between categories.
The tabs along the top:
Designer: build the form.
Preview: try it as a participant. To test file uploads, publish the program and apply as a test participant.
Logic: conditional rules.
Code Editor: the form's JSON, for advanced users.
Translations: every text in other languages, such as Arabic.
On narrow screens, some tabs move into the ⋯ menu.
The Designer toolbar has Undo, Redo, Form Settings (the sliders icon) and Clear Survey (the eraser icon). Clear Survey deletes every question in the form, so only use it on a new track.
Each question's toolbar lets you change its type: click the type label (e.g. Single-Line Input) to convert it to any other field type, or click the format label (e.g. Text) to switch between Email, Number, Date and the other formats.
3. Every field type
Text Input Questions
Field | What it does |
Single-Line Input | A one-line answer. Click the arrow next to it to choose a format: Text, Email, Phone Number, URL, Number, Date, Date and Time, Time, Month, Week, Color, Password, Range. Each format gives participants the right keyboard and validation (an email must look like an email, for example). Number adds Min, Max and Step. You can also add an input mask (Settings → mask) for fixed formats such as IDs. |
Long Text | A paragraph answer. Set the height in lines, auto-expand, and a Maximum character limit (Validation). |
Multiple Textboxes | Several short labeled boxes in one question (for example First name / Last name / Organization). |
Choice Questions
Field | What it does |
Radio Button Group | Pick one. Options include "Other" and "None", column count, and choice order (random is possible). |
Checkboxes | Pick several. You can limit how many can be selected. |
Dropdown | Pick one from a searchable list. Best for long lists such as countries. Allow custom choices lets participants type their own. |
Multi-Select Dropdown | Pick several from a searchable list; selections show as tags. |
Ranking | Drag options into order. Allow selective ranking lets participants rank only the ones they choose. |
Rating Scale | A 1–5 (or custom) scale shown as Labels, Stars or Smileys, with optional end labels ("Poor" / "Excellent"). |
Yes/No | A toggle. Rename the labels (for example "Agree" / "Disagree"). Ideal for consent and eligibility checks. |
File Upload | Uploads: documents, decks, images or videos. See Section 4 for file settings. |
Image Picker | Choose by clicking images (single or multiple). |
Misc
Field | What it does |
Image | Shows a picture or banner (not a question). |
Signature | Participants sign with a mouse or finger. Set the size, pen color and placeholder ("Sign here"). |
HTML | Your own formatted content: headings, instructions, clickable links and download buttons. To make a link clickable, put it in an HTML element (links typed in a question description show as plain text), e.g. |
Expression (read-only) | A calculated value shown to participants, such as a total budget or a score. Formats include decimal, currency and percent. |
Attachments | A display block (participants don't answer it) where you attach files for people to download inside the form, such as a budget template, guidelines or terms. Add the files under Attachments in the settings panel. |
Links | A display block listing useful links (resources, FAQ, the program page). Add them under Links in the settings panel. It's simpler than writing HTML. |
Containers
Field | What it does |
Panel | Groups questions under one heading (e.g. "Company details"). It can be collapsible, and show or hide as a group. |
Dynamic Panel | A repeatable group, such as team members, co-founders or work experience. Participants click "Add new" for each entry. Key settings: |
Matrix Questions
Field | What it does |
Single-Select Matrix | Rows of statements, each rated on the same columns (e.g. Strongly disagree → Strongly agree). |
Multi-Select Matrix | A grid where each column can be a different input (dropdown, text, checkbox and so on). |
Dynamic Matrix | A table where participants add rows, such as a budget breakdown or milestones. Set minimum and maximum rows, and turn on row reordering if you want it. |
General
Field | What it does |
Video Recorder | Participants record a video (or audio) answer directly in the form with their camera. There's no file to upload. Ideal for elevator pitches, "tell us about yourself" and screening interviews. Settings: |
Rating Slider | A draggable slider for numbers, such as "How ready is your product? 0–10", a percentage or an amount. Settings (slider category): |
4. Settings on every question
Click a question and look in the settings panel.
Who sees the question
Visible For Participant: untick it to hide the question from applicants. You can still show it to evaluators, which is useful for internal notes or admin-filled fields.
Visible For Evaluator: untick it to hide the answer from evaluators, for blind review (e.g. hide name, email, gender or university). To control every field at once and set its order, use Evaluator Preview (Section 5).
Pre-filling from the participant's profile
In the Data category, Select a profile field as a default answer fills the question automatically from the participant's profile. The options are Name, Email Address and every custom profile field on your platform (for example Phone Number, Country, LinkedIn Profile or CV). Participants don't retype what they gave at signup, and the data stays consistent. The canvas shows the link as, for example, Name::name.
Custom profile fields are managed in Gear icon → Users → Custom Fields. Turn on Fill empty profile fields using submitted form answers there to copy answers back into profiles.
Files
Accepted file categories: Images, Videos, Audio, Documents, Archives, or Custom.
Allowed Extensions: an exact list, e.g.
.pdf,.doc,.docxor.mp4.Enable multiple file upload, Preview uploaded images and Confirm file deletion.
File source type: Local file, Camera, or Local file or Camera. Camera is useful for ID photos on mobile.
Mark as a thumbnail (for evaluation card view): the uploaded image becomes the submission's picture on evaluator cards and galleries. Use it for a logo, product photo or poster.
Answers that score
Correct Answer (Data category) marks the right option on choice questions. It's used for quizzes, eligibility screening and initial filtration, so submissions can be scored and qualified automatically. A maximum score per question is calculated automatically and feeds Round Scores.
Example: to show extra pages based on a choice, add a radio question with the options 1, 2 and 3. Then show page 2 when the answer is greater than 1, and page 3 when the answer is greater than 2.
Changes apply to the round where you make them. If a participant has already moved to a later round and you need to change their answers there, message us in chat and we'll help.
5. Tools around the builder
Evaluator Preview (blind review)
Click Evaluator Preview to see every field in the form. Switch a field's toggle off to hide it from evaluators, and drag fields to change the order evaluators read them in. Click Confirm Preview to apply. This is the quickest way to set up blind evaluation.
Use template
Click Use template to start from a ready-made form. Search the library or filter by section. The library includes validated assessments for talent and HR programs:
IQ & Cognitive Ability (timed): HMT-S Short Matrices Screener (6 questions), ICAR-16 Sample Set, ICAR-60 Battery, ICAR Progressive Matrices, Open Verbal & Numerical Reasoning (24).
Psychometric Tests (untimed): IPIP Big-Five (50 items), IPIP-NEO-120, Mini-IPIP (20), and IPIP scales for Creativity, Industriousness/Grit, Intellectual Curiosity and Self-Control.
Each card shows the number of questions, the timing, what it's best for, and how it's scored. Scores are calculated automatically.
A template replaces the form's current questions. Apply templates to a new or empty track, not to a form that already has submissions.
AI Assistant
Click AI Assistant, describe what the form is for and who it's for (e.g. "Application for a 12-week fintech accelerator for early-stage startups in Saudi Arabia"), then click Generate Questions. Review and edit the result. The AI Assistant uses your platform's AI connection (Gear icon → Platform Settings → Integrations → AI Integration).
6. Form-wide settings
Click the form background, or the sliders icon above the settings panel, to open the form's own settings. The categories are on the right rail:
General: form title and description, form language, width (Auto / Static / Responsive).
Logo: a logo on the form, with its size and fit.
Navigation: Next / Previous / Submit button texts, progress bar (type and position), Review before submit, start page, auto-advance.
Question: numbering, title position, required symbol, maximum answer length for all questions.
Pages: add, reorder and title pages; show page titles and numbers; Enable grid layout to put questions side by side.
Form Complete: the confirmation (thank-you) page. See Section 7.
Timer: a time limit for the whole form or per page, and where the timer shows. Useful for assessments.
7. The confirmation (Thank You) page
This is what participants see straight after they click Submit. Open Form Settings → Form Complete (the icon on the right rail). There are four settings:
"Thank You" page markup: the message everyone sees. It accepts HTML (headings, bold text, links, inline styles), and you can include answers or calculated values in curly brackets, e.g.
Thank you, {question1}!orTotal correct: {score_trait_TOTAL} / 6.Dynamic "Thank You" page markup: different messages for different answers. Click +, write a condition such as
{score_trait_TOTAL} >= 5and the message to show. If no condition matches, the default message is used.Redirect to an external link after submission: send participants to a URL (for example your website or a booking page) instead of showing the message.
Dynamic external link: a different URL depending on answers.
You can also add a conditional message from the Logic tab with the action Set "Thank You" page markup.
Example: in an assessment form, the default message shows "Your results – Total correct: 5 / 6 – Estimated percentile: 91.9". A dynamic message with the condition {score_trait_TOTAL} >= 5 can show "Excellent result! You scored 6/6." instead.
The Thank You page is the on-screen message. The confirmation email is separate: edit it in the round's Messages tab → Participant Submission.
8. Logic (conditional rules)
Open the Logic tab (third icon) and click Add New Rule. A rule is If (one or more conditions) then (one or more actions).
Click Select... and choose the question the rule depends on.
Choose the operator. The available operators are Empty, Not empty, Equals, Does not equal, Contains, Does not contain, Any of, None of, All of, Greater than, Less than, Greater than or equal to, Less than or equal to.
Choose or type the value. Use Add Condition to combine conditions with and / or.
Click Select action... and choose what happens, then the question, panel or page it applies to. Use Add Action to do several things with the same rule.
Click Done. The rule is saved straight away and appears as a sentence, e.g. If 'Track' == Startup, make question 'Company registration number' visible.
Actions you can use:
Pages: Show/hide page, Enable/disable page, Make page required.
Panels: Show/hide panel, Enable/disable panel, Make panel required.
Questions: Show/hide question, Enable/disable question, Make question required, Reset question value, Set question value.
Form flow: Complete survey (finish the form early, e.g. after a failed eligibility question), Skip to question, Set answer, Copy answer, Run expression.
Set "Thank You" page markup: a conditional confirmation message.
Manual Entry (top right) lets you type the condition as an expression, e.g.
{age} >= 18 and {country} = 'Jordan'. It's useful for complex rules, and when a choice can't be clicked (for example image choices whose images don't load). All Questions and All Action Types filter the rule list on big forms.
To edit a rule, click it. To delete one, hover it and click the red bin. Deleting happens straight away, without a confirmation. The arrows on the left let you drag rules into a different order.
If a rule is incomplete, the builder shows "The logic expression is empty or invalid. Please correct it." Complete the rule and it will save.
Quick per-question logic also lives in the question's settings → Logic: Make the question visible if, Disable the read-only mode if, Make the question required if, Reset value if, Set value if. Choice questions also have Make choices visible if / Make choices selectable if.
9. Translations (Arabic and other languages)
Open the Translations tab (the last icon).
Open the Languages panel on the right and click +. The available languages are Arabic (العربية), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese. Default is English.
A new column appears next to Default (English). Type the translation of every string: form description, Thank You page, page titles, question titles and every choice.
Untick a language in the Languages panel to hide its column while you work. Use the bin to remove a language and its translations.
All Pages filters the list to one page. Used Strings Only hides texts you haven't set.
Import from CSV and Export to CSV (the two icons in the toolbar) let you send the strings to a translator as a spreadsheet and load them back.
Participants see the translated form when they use the platform in that language. Untranslated strings fall back to English.
You add the translations yourself: type them in, or import them from a CSV.
10. Code Editor: import, export and copy
The Code Editor tab (the {} icon) shows the whole form as JSON. Its toolbar has three actions:
Import: load a
.jsonform file. It replaces the current form, so use it on a new track or after exporting a backup.Export: download the form as a
.jsonfile. Use it as a backup before big changes, or to reuse the form in another program or platform.Copy to clipboard: copy the JSON, e.g. to paste into another track's Code Editor.
You can also edit the JSON directly. The editor shows errors if the JSON is invalid, and nothing is applied until it's valid. To move a form between tracks without JSON, use + Add Track → Clone fields from another form.
11. Preview
The Preview tab runs the form exactly as participants will see it, including logic, calculations and the Thank You page.
Device selector: Desktop, iPhone SE, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPad Mini, iPad Air, Android Phone, Android Tablet, Microsoft Surface. The rotate icon switches between portrait and landscape.
Show invisible elements: also shows hidden questions and pages, such as admin-only pages.
After you complete the preview, you see the Thank You page and a Survey Results table (As Table / As JSON), which is handy for checking calculated scores. Click Preview Survey Again to restart.
Preview answers are never saved as submissions. To test file uploads, publish the program and apply as a test participant.
12. How do I…?
…create a submission form? You don't need to: every round already has one. Open the round's Submission Form tab and edit it (Section 1). For more forms in the same round, add tracks (see Managing Submission Tracks).
…change the confirmation (thank-you) message? Form Settings → Form Complete → "Thank You" page markup (Section 7).
…show a page only to evaluators (e.g. a scores summary)? Select the page and untick Visible For Participant, keeping Visible For Evaluator on.
…end the form early if someone isn't eligible? Logic → Add New Rule → action Complete survey, and pair it with a dynamic Thank You message explaining why.
…copy a form to another track or program? + Add Track → Clone fields from another form, or Code Editor → Export then Import.
…get the form translated by someone else? Translations → Export to CSV, then Import from CSV when it comes back.
…limit which file types can be uploaded? Select the File Upload question and set Accepted file categories or Allowed Extensions (see Section 4).
…copy a question inside the form? Hover it and click Duplicate. You don't need to clone the program.
…let a team add more members? Select the Dynamic Panel and raise Maximum number of entries.
…accept one extra team member as an exception? The maximum applies to every edit of the submission, including yours. So: (1) select the team question in the form and raise Maximum number of entries by one; (2) go to Submissions → the submission's ⋮ Actions → Edit, add the member and save; (3) set Maximum number of entries back to its original value.
…repeat a group of questions based on a number? Use a Dynamic Panel, and in its Logic → Bindings link the panel count to a Number question (e.g. "How many founders?").
…add a clickable link or a PDF? Use an HTML element, or the Links / Attachments blocks.
…hide personal details from judges? Use Evaluator Preview, or untick Visible For Evaluator on the question.
…stop participants retyping their name and email? Set Select a profile field as a default answer.
…give an assessment a time limit? Form settings → Timer.
…let participants check their answers before submitting? Navigation → Review before submit.
13. Before you edit a live form
Changes save instantly (you'll see "Saved") and apply to new submissions straight away. Click Export in the Code Editor first to keep a backup.
Keep the question name (the internal identifier) of any question that already has answers. Existing answers are stored under that name, so changing or deleting it can stop them showing or exporting. To reword a question, change its visible title instead.
If you add a required question, participants with unfinished submissions will need to answer it before they can submit.
Remember there's one form per track. If you have several tracks, repeat the change in each.
Test in Preview, then publish and submit once as a test participant (uploads only work outside Preview).
