Creating and Configuring Courses

Host and manage structured educational content by setting up your first course.

Courses let you share structured learning with your community: units, lessons, quizzes, assignments and certificates. This guide shows you how to create your first course and set it up.

I. Open Courses

  1. In your dashboard, click Courses in the top bar. Each course appears as a card showing its status (Draft or Published) and visibility, with Manage and Visit links. Use the Home, Archived and Trash tabs to filter.

  2. To create a course, click New Course. A draft course is created straight away, ready for you to fill in its details.

Inside a course you'll find these tabs: Overview, Messages, Participants, Instructors, Discussions, Certificates, one tab per Unit, and Analytics.

II. Set up the Overview tab

A. Course information

  • Course Title and Course Slug (the course's web address).

  • About Section Title, plus + Add Section for more sections.

  • Duration, Start Date and Deadline.

B. Course description

The description uses a rich text editor. You can format text, add lists, tables and quotes, insert links, images, videos, PDFs and media URLs, and use Source to edit the HTML directly.

C. Image and organization

  • Course image: drag and drop a cover image.

  • Category (+ Add Category), Learning path and Course level.

  • Visibility:

    • Public: open to all visitors.

    • Users: registered platform users only.

    • Invited Only: only people you invite.

    • Programs: for participants of a program. You can choose the Program and the Round where the course is required, so participants complete it before they move on.

When you're done, click Save Content.

III. Build the course structure

  • Click + Add Unit (top right) to create a chapter. Each unit has its own tab.

  • Inside a unit, click + Add Lesson to create lessons, each with About, Quiz, Assignment and Settings tabs. See Building Course Content.

IV. Manage participants and instructors

A. Participants tab

Enroll people with Add Participants and follow their progress:

  • Progress (completion %), Quiz Avg, Assignment Avg and Course Avg.

  • Started date and Duration spent in the course.

  • Certificate: issue or revoke certificates (see Issuing Course Certificates).

  • Use the Actions menu or the toolbar to star, tag, note, message, export or remove participants.

B. Instructors tab

Click + Add Instructor to add subject experts, link them to units or lessons, and manage their biographies.

C. Messages and Discussions

Use Messages for the course's automatic emails and Discussions for conversations with and between learners.

V. Course controls

The icons at the top right of the course let you edit the title, share the course, turn the publish switch on or off (Draft ↔ Published), view it as a participant, archive it, or delete it.
